What to Expect on Your First Day After Laser Hair Removal

However, this does not mean the operation was ineffective. It just means that you need to be patient about seeing the results of your laser hair removal service.
In your body, only about 20% of your hair follicles are in the growth phase. This means you will not eradicate all the hair follicles at one time. After the laser hair removal treatment, your hair will continue growing for about 1 to 2 weeks. As you continue your treatments, the hair will become sparser. By the time you have completed multiple treatments, you will have almost no hair regrowth.
2. Avoid direct sun exposure after laser hair removal.
Basking in the sun is not recommended after a laser hair removal procedure. Sunlight may irritate your sensitive skin, potentially causing discomfort. If you go outside, don’t expose the treated areas to direct sunlight. You can wear a hat to protect your face and apply sunscreen on your body. In addition, steer clear of heat sources after laser hair removal, such as saunas, tanning booths, and steam rooms.
3. Minimize strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
On the day after laser hair removal, you should avoid rigorous exercise or any activity that could raise the body temperature. When your body is warmed up from strenuous exercise, it tends to produce a lot of sweat. This isn’t good after the laser hair removal treatment, since sweat may increase the irritation or pain of your skin.
As a substitute, try milder exercises for the next 24 hours, like taking walks or doing yoga. When you wash up after exercising, avoid any steamy hot baths or scorching showers. Instead, use a lower water temperature to keep your body cool.
4. Don’t irritate the skin after laser hair removal.
After the laser hair removal treatment, your skin might become more delicate and sensitive for a short period of time. As your skin recovers, it is important to avoid causing further irritation before or after the laser hair removal treatments. Stay away from some of the common irritants, such as body lotions, deodorants, and fragrances.
Instead, apply aloe vera gel to the treated area 2 to 3 times each day until the irritation clears up. Even if the gel may not be part of your typical beauty routine, try using aloe after laser hair removal treatments. Keep this product refrigerated for optimal results.
5. Any initial discomfort will fade away.
Laser hair removal is virtually painless, making this a very relaxing and comfortable method to remove body hair. With that said, some body parts may be more sensitive than others. For instance, the thicker areas of your skin may appear more immune to discomfort than the thinner parts.
Fortunately, any initial discomfort should soon fade away. It is rare that you will experience long-lasting discomfort after the laser hair removal procedure. If necessary, you can use ice packs to manage your comfort levels. Gently dab the treated area with the ice bag for up to 10 minutes each day. Remember to wrap the ice pack in a towel before you apply it on the skin.
6. Your skin will recover quickly after laser hair removal.
Although your skin may feel more sensitive after laser hair removal, it should heal quickly. You are very unlikely to experience prolonged side effects. On rare occasions, you may see some slight redness in the treated area. This symptom is temporary, which should disappear after the initial two days at most. Aloe vera gel and ice packs can also be used to reduce the redness.
